Floor Retreat

On Saturday I got to spend the day with my floor bonding over a beautiful hike and lots of silly moments. We had breakfast in the caf and then headed out to Laguna Beach where we hiked a main trail in crystal cove national park. The hills looked out over the ocean and at mid day it was absolutely beautiful. I LOVE the ocean. It's so majestic and beautiful and reminds me of home.
 [p.s. I didn't take any of these photos. the credit goes to my sweet floor mate tessa]

At the start of the trail and it's all smiles!

 Our beautiful RAs Kelly and Alyssa. Love these ladies! They're so cute and are fun to be around :)

We made it to the top!

Poor Kelly! She slipped and fell in a big mud puddle after racing back to the join the group. Thankfully she's such a good sport and we had a good laugh!

After our hike we went out for coffee and then headed back to La Mirada. We stopped and had dinner at Red Robin which was so good. We were all starving so we pigged out on juicy burgers and bottomless fries. We drove back to school, showered, and then met in our lobby to watch George of the Jungle and eat ridiculous amounts of candy. I love my Jedidiah ladies! They are all such fun, crazy, and beautiful women that love God. Such a great community to live in! I am so thankful to be apart of it.

first week back

It’s official! I’ve finished my first week of the semester. It’s so fun to be back in the swing of things, homework and all. I’m really excited for my classes this semester and I really like my professors so far. They are all so passionate about their subject which always makes for a good class. I’m taking four classes for my major, a basic freshman English class that I didn’t take last year, and a class about Acts and early church history. Fun stuff! The semester shouldn’t be hard, but I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot more reading than I have been. Mondays will be long, but I am loving not having class on Friday.

This week, along with classes, contained many dinner dates, a chai date with Marie and Kelly, floor bonding, the Horton all hall {best karaoke of the my life}, a starbucks date with Heather {my lifegroup leader}, and the final Biola vs APU basketball games in history where both the girls and boys won. Go eagles! A great start to a what will be a great semester.

And to top it all off, my wonderful roommate surprised me with the most amazing gift ever...

...a manatee cookie cutter! If you know me well then you know all about my obsession with manatees. I love how well she knows me. Guess who's getting cookies this weekend?

idaho adventures

So as I have mentioned in the last two posts, I was able to visit my best friend Bethany at her university in Idaho over my break. It was so fun to shadow her life, meet her friends, and be her roommate for those five days.

{This is her favorite photo of us. We're so little! This was the summer of '08. Please notice my sunburned nose haha}

I’ve known this girl for twelve years and she is one of the most loving and encouraging girls I’ve ever met. She has such a strong relationship with God and her passion for him is so evident in who she is and how she lives. Not to mention she has a wonderful sense of humor, fun, and adventure. I’ve experienced so much of my life with her that she’s truly become my sister. My parents, brothers, and even grandparents all acknowledge her as part of the family. So, needless to say, those days with her were amazing. Spending time with her was like getting some much needed fresh air.

Our time together basically consisted of me going to class with her and then watching her study her brains out, though we were able to squeeze in some very fun moments. We went to a dollar theater and saw Real Steel. I’ll be honest, I thought I’d hate it because it definitely isn’t my kind of movie, but I really liked it and Hugh Jackman was great eye candy (: We also watched Hercules and I got her hooked on Once Upon A Time.

On Saturday a group of us drove up to Bogus Basin and went night skiing/snowboarding. This was a rather exciting and terrifying adventure for me since I had never being skiing or snowboarding in my life. After getting up to the mountain, renting our gear, and getting our lift tickets I was promptly taken to the bunny slope and taught how to ski. I got the basic concept but was by NO means good. Then Bethany’s boyfriend Todd {who is a great guy minus this upcoming lack of judgement} decided to take us up the mountain because “you learn on a real slope.” We got to the top of a blue run and they sent me on my way. I went straight down that mountain. Some how I had missed the memo about zig zagging down the mountain. So I literally just went straight down. I was so scared at how fast I would get going I would intentionally make myself fall {my body and the snow became very well acquainted} After falling hard multiple time I told myself I would just keeping going no matter how scared I was. HUGE mistake! I FLEW down the mountain and I screamed the whole way. Most of the time I screamed, “I HATE SKIING!!.” I’m pretty sure I saw my entire life flash before my eyes. I finally fell over again and decided I would be walking down the rest of the hill no matter how far I had to go. After my heart stopped pounding I spent the rest of the night on the bunny slope and I was perfectly all right with that.

The next morning I felt like I had been beat up in my sleep, but I can look back fondly on my first skiing experience {and I got a great story out of it}. Idaho was beautiful, the skiing was fun, and being with Bethany was such an encouragement leading up to a new semester!
